How to Make a Gingerbread House: The Resort at Pedregal-Style

Making gingerbread houses is one of our favorite Christmas traditions. According to certain researchers, the first gingerbread houses were the result of the well-known Grimm’s fairy tale “Hansel and Gretel” in which the two children abandoned in the forest found an edible house made of bread with sugar decorations.

For many families, the tradition of decorating a gingerbread house is an annual holiday event. Here we will show you how we make our very special gingerbread houses, The Resort at Pedregal-Style.

INGREDIENTS

QUANTITIES

Honey

1050g (37 oz)

Granulated Sugar

650g (23 oz)

All Purpose

2000g (70.5 oz)

Baking Soda

20g (0.70 oz)

Baking Powder

20g (0.70 oz)

Water

300g (10.5 oz)

Cinnamon Powder

35g (1.2 oz)

Ginger Powder

15g (0.5 oz)

5 Spices Powder

5g (0.1 oz)

PROCESS:

Sift together the flour,  Ginger, Cinnamon, Spices powder. Into a pot heat the water, sugar, and honey until 60°C. Then add the baking powder and the baking soda, mix until dissolved. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients, until they are completely absorbed. Divide dough into 3 pieces, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 3 hours.

On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 inch apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven. When the cookies are done, they will look dry, but still be soft to the touch. Remove from the baking sheet to cool on wire racks. When cool, the cookies can be frosted with the icing of your choice.

Using the icing, stick sweets around the door and on the front of the house.

Enjoy!!
